The RETOLD project's final event "Digitalisation in Open-Air Museums", co-organised by EXARC with Museum Batavialand, took place in Leystad (Netherlands) from 11-13th September.
The conference focused on the theme of Digitalisation in Open-air Museums, and included presentations and workshops from the RETOLD partners and from others based all around the world. Partners presented their experiences throughout the project, looking at how they had developed and adapted over the last four years. Other talks ranged from immersive experiences in a Dutch museum, the use of digital technologies to help preserve heritage in Ukraine, digitisation of crafts at a heritage centre in the USA, to the documentation of pit-house reconstructions in Japan. The conference also marked the launch of the RETOLD Platform. Developed by the Creative Europe funded RETOLD project, the platform is designed support Open Air museums as they document, digitise and share their stories.
Henk Alkemade presented "Unlocking (3D) Cultural Heritage" on behalf of CARARE, discussing some inspiring examples of the creation, use and re-use of content. How using standards and metadata help to unlock 3D digital heritage and make it FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable). Henk shared some examples of how to make content FAIR from the 5DCulture project and concluded by discussing some lessons learned.
