Given the contemporary focus on sustainability in the face of climate change. Archaeologists need to make the best use of archaeological data and in turn make it available for re-use in research, education, by local communities, citizen scientists and creative people.
Assisted by digital technologies, field archaeologists and other specialists are increasingly producing data. Reports are born digital and being deposited with an array of raw data, images, geospatial datasets and 3D resources in digital archives and made available online. These resources are being aggregated and made available through archaeological research infrastructures and online services to the wider public.
The CARARE Association, a network of expertise in the digital archaeological and architectural heritage, is active in promoting the use of this content for public benefit. In this round table session, we aim to focus discussion on the potential uses of the digital cultural heritage by the wider community by exploring the reuse of archaeological data. Case studies exploring how archaeological data can be used to understand the impact of climate change on archaeology, land management in past societies, and in citizen science are welcomed.
