
At CARARE, our mission has always been to open access to digital cultural heritage. Today, we are taking that mission a step further by officially signing the Open Heritage Statement (OHS).
What is the Open Heritage Statement? The OHS is a landmark document developed by over 60 organizations across 25 countries within the TAROCH Coalition (Towards a Recommendation on Open Cultural Heritage). It highlights the urgent need for a global framework that protects and opens heritage for creativity and learning.
Why it Matters While the digital age offers unprecedented opportunities, only a small fraction of the world’s cultural heritage is currently shared openly. Barriers—ranging from technical hurdles to restrictive policies—often prevent the public from accessing the very history that belongs to them.
