We're pleased to announce that users of Scan the World can now share their models with Europeana via our Share3D dashboard.

Scan the World, the community-led initiative dedicated to the open access preservation of cultural heritage through 3D scanning, is proud to collaborate with CARARE and Europeana, the European Union's digital platform for cultural heritage. Scan the World have made their archive accessible via an API and the 3D models within can now be made available to Europeana’s portal through CARARE’s Share3D dashboard.

The Scan the World project’s founder, Jon Beck, says “By integrating Scan the World’s high-quality digitized objects into Europeana, we aim to demonstrate the power of open, community-built archives and to encourage more cultural institutions to participate in meaningful, thoughtful digitization of their collections”. Founded on the belief that cultural heritage should be freely accessible to all, Scan the World invites people and institutions across the globe to contribute by 3D scanning objects that hold personal or cultural significance. Institutional collaborations, where museum-quality scans created with professional equipment like the Artec Eva, preserve objects to high technical standards.

Museums, galleries, and archives can now more easily engage in sharing their 3D collections in Scan the World with Europeana via CARARE's Share3D dashboard.

Scan the World and Europeana are helping define how cultural data can be shared, reused, and reimagined. This new collaboration with CARARE extends that mission further, placing 3D content from Scan the World into one of the most widely used and respected cultural portals in the world.

We hope this initiative inspires more institutions to explore what open, accessible 3D digitization can offer not just in preservation, but in storytelling, education, and community engagement.
